Mayor’s Annual Food Drive @ Santa’s Breakfast & Craft Market – Nov. 26, 2016!

November 25, 2016

The Mayor’s Annual Food Drive, now in its 28th year, is a collaboration of amazing community partners and individuals that helps Calgarians in need over the busy winter months — all with the enthusiastic support of Mayor Naheed Nenshi!

By making a donation, you are making a difference in the lives of neighbours and friends. Winston Heights Mountview Community Association will place boxes in the lobby of the main hall and we encourage community association members, guests, renters, and other visitors to make your donations there in the next few weeks.

We challenge our WHMCA committees to find a way to make the donation personal. Perhaps the Mums’ groups could donate baby food or diapers and the Community Garden team could donate tinned vegetables. Facilities and Operations might take on soap and detergent and even toilet tissue. Send an email to communications@winstonheights.ca to let us know how you have taken on the challenge.

HOME INVASION – Information wanted

November 23, 2016

file_001

On November 16th a theft was committed at 508 24 Avenue NE (address used at request of homeowner) and was interrupted by the homeowner between 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.  Unfortunately she did not realize that the noise she heard in the house was not her family and so the person (female wearing an orange sweater) escaped (in a newish looking burgundy Dodge Ram truck) with all of her identification among other things.  The family is working with the police and with the assistance of the credit card company and the organizations where the thief made purchases using the cards, so they have a good chance of apprehending the person.
They are not sure if this was a theft of opportunity because one of the doors was wide open but was not broken.  She would like to warn neighbours that the robbery took place in the morning.  If anyone has information or has also been robber recently please email communications@winstonheights.ca and I will forward that information on to the family/police so we might be able to provide better information.

Marsden Road Park Adopt-A-Rink!

November 15, 2016

skate

Sharpen up your skates! It’s time to enjoy our Calgary Winter!

Great news: The Marsden Road Adopt-A-Rink is coming back!

The rink will be returning to the bermed area in the Marsden Road Park for this winter, where there is proper lighting and water service!

Please remember that this rink is intended for recreational skating only and that pucks and sticks are not allowed. Hockey is permitted at the main rink at the community hall.

Craig Baskett creates and maintains the Adopt-a-Rink at Marsden Road Park, so if you see him around the neighbourhood, please say thank you!

Today! Monday Playgroup

Playgroup!

playgroup info 6x3625

Are you a mom, dad, grandparent or caregiver in the neighbourhood and would like to have a place to go to meet other people and have your children socialize and play with others? Then come and join us at the Winston Heights-Mountview Playgroup held at the Winston Heights-Mountview Community Centre. We have great toys for the kids to play with and this is a great way to get out and meet others. Playgroup is held each Monday morning starting at 10:00 a.m. and lasts to 11:30 a.m (starting up again September 12, 2016).

This is an informal, non-registered playgroup, so no need to sign up, just come out and join us on Monday mornings – we love to meet new families in the neighbourhood! If you have any questions, or would like more information, please contact Sarah Wiedmer Jarabak at playgroup@winstonheights.ca.

Also, if you’d be interested in having a ‘story time’ during playgroup, please contact me via e-mail. If we have enough interest, I will organize a Calgary Public Library public outreach coordinator to schedule us in for regular story times. They bring books on a specific theme and read a few to the children while guardians quietly visit. The books are even available to be checked out if you bring your library card with you.
