Not everyone could make it to the Munro Park Visioning Session last night so here’s a little background. The idea behind the meeting wasn’t to decide what the park would become after this redevelopment but to help decide on the direction to go with the park over the future (the vision over the next 10-15 years), a plan to follow.
Here’s a quick look at topics that were discussed:

If you have more ideas/suggestions on the vision of the park please join us at the next event on April 16, 2014 and then the final presentation on May 14, 2014 at the WHM Community Hall.

As a volunteer in our community we would like to invite you to Who Done It & Who Won It: Vegas Edition!
This is the Federation of Calgary Communities’ annual volunteer recognition celebration. This year they will be taking us to ‘Vegas’ for a night of fun-money casino games like poker, black jack, and roulette, where you can win up to $1,000,000 in fun-money to bid on exciting prizes!

There are 2 up coming events at the community rink. Everyone is invited to watch or participate, depending on which event you attend (feel free to come to both)!
Celebrate the Rink: Sunday Feb. 16 from 1 to 5 pm
Join us again for our annual family skating party on Sunday Feb. 16 from 1 to 5 pm at the Community Hall. Enjoy skating, shinny hockey, snow games and your chance to win prizes. We’ll have hot dogs and hot chocolate and celebrate our community outdoor venues. Winter fun for the whole family!
He shoots, he scores: Wednesday Feb. 26 @ 6:15 am and 7:30 am
Our community rink has been chosen by Hockey Calgary to be one of four Calgary outdoor rinks to host Breakfast Television’s Outdoor Classic. On Wednesday Feb. 26, four Atom level teams (Division: Atom 2 – Bracket B and Atom 10 – Bracket A) will play live on Breakfast Television on the Community Hall rink at 6:15 am (Atom 10) and 7:30 am (Atom 2). Come over to watch the fun or tune in to Breakfast Television.
The City of Calgary is giving Winston Heights/Mountview the opportunity to provide input into how we would like Munro Park to look and function in the future. Beginning with an initial “visioning” session on Feb. 19, residents can share their dreams of what the park could look like, their concerns about current park issues that could be addressed in a new plan, and their desires for amenities in the park. The design firm, IBI Group, will facilitate the visioning process and use the ideas collected to create some possible park plans.
On April 16, they will showcase those plans at an Open House. There, residents can review the conceptual plans and provide more input and direction to the consulting team. In May, IBI Group will use the guidance from the Open House to develop and present a Master Plan for Munro Park. This document will guide the City and the Community Association for future developments to the Park.
If you are interested in unlocking the potential of this large park on the south and west edge of our community, please come out to share your ideas. All events will be held at Winston Heights Community Hall, starting at 7 p.m.

Please join us for the Christmas Craft Sale and Santa Breakfast on Saturday, December 14th. Breakfast will be served from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with Santa arriving to hand out treats to the children at 11:00 am. We will have musical entertainment by Mr. Miller, an awesome children’s entertainer, as well as the Barberrellas, and amazing female Barber Quartet, for all to enjoy as well as an amazing craft project for the children to participate in, created by a very talented local artist, Yvette Dubois.
Craft Fair Tables will be open from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm with a wide variety of vendors from homemade jellys and jams to crocheted products to children’s tutu’s, Scentsy, Epicure, Usborne Books, Stained Glass Artworks, original paintings, and much, much more. Get your Christmas shopping done early, and avoid the malls!!
Breakfast has been made available by the generous donations of Community Natural Foods and Planet Organic’s North Store. Thanks so much to these generous donors for their participation in our event.
The breakfast is free to all Winston Heights-Mountview Community Association Members, and at at cost of $4 for non-members. Memberships will be available for purchase at the doors for a cost of $10 per family. And each membership sold will come with a $5.00 coupon for Planet Organic.
A bake table will also be raising funds for community initiatives. If you are interested in donating baking, please drop it off to the hall between 12pm – 3pm on Friday, December 13 or between 9am – 9:30am on Saturday, December 14th. Learn about our plans for the Community Garden and share our excitement in the progress we have made so far. This is also a chance for you to express your ideas, thoughts and comments on the garden. You will have an opportunity to meet the committee, tour the garden sight, hear how the project will benefit the community and find out how you can lend support to the project.
