North Central LRT: May Open House Dates

Come and join the conversation with Calgary Transit and other stakeholders about planning for the future route of the North Central LRT. Calgary Transit wants to hear everyone’s ideas on where we should be planning to build the sixth leg of Calgary LRT system, what things we should consider when planning this route, the types of LRT vehicles that will run on the line and station concepts. Input from these sessions will help us determine where to focus our planning to fine tune the future alignment options.

Centennial Garden Clean-up – June 12th. 9:00am

The WHM Garden Committee invites you to join our Spring Clean-up of the Centennial Garden June 12th starting at 9:00am. Come and see how the garden has fared over the winter and observe the native landscape as it wakes up for spring and summer. Investigate all the new, little plants that have self-seeded as we tidy up from the winter carnage and prepare for the impending weed fest. Or, just pop by to ask questions about the garden, check out the information center in the Garden Shed, visit with the volunteers and stick around for the plant exchange to follow.  Refreshments will be served.

If interested in volunteering for the garden clean-up please email Yvette at garden@winstonheights.ca.

Annual Plant Exchange

June 12, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

After the Garden Cleanup, a community plant exchange will be held.  It’s a great opportunity to trade plants with your neighbours and friends.  Any plants not traded will be sold at a minimal cost.  Any plants not exchanged or sold will go into the Centennial Garden if deemed appropriate by the Garden Committee.

Tips for the Plant Exchange:

Pot up exchange-bound plants on the day of the exchange if possible OR do it a few days ahead of time to give the plants a chance to recover in their pots.  It’s best to have healthy looking plants.

Exchange Guidelines:

1)   Known invasive or noxious plants are not allowed.  Common examples are white daisies, creeping bellflower, yellow clematis.

2)   All plants must be weed free, individually potted or bagged, watered and be in reasonably good condition.

3)   Mark the plants as best you can.  If you don’t know the name, definitely list what type of light and soil conditions the plant was growing in.

4)   Exchanges are straight across one for one.

5)   Plant sale will take place at approximately 12:30 pm.

If you are interested in volunteering to help with the plant exchange, please email Yvette garden@winstonheights.ca

CHECK IT OUT!!!! CLEA’S SUNDAY PERFORMANCE

Hey everyone,

One last thing, I was selected for the finals of the Calgary Folk Fest/Ship and Anchor Songwriting contest with our favorite song ‘Neighbour’! So I will be performing it this Sunday afternoon on May 15 at the Ship and Anchor in competition for some awesome things: the main prize is performing at the Folk Fest but also the Arusha Centre is giving one for best song about social justice.

Please do come if you can (its free) and tell everyone you know to come as well! It would mean so much to have my surrogate neighbours there, singing along in support! The afternoon will be an all ages event and it begins at 12 noon.

Hope everyone is enjoying the glorious weather!
Clea

Help us clean up our off-leash park!

We are lucky to have a beautiful off-leash dog park in our neighbourhood, but the difficult winter made the slopes icy and even some responsible dog owners were not always able to pick up after their pet. To keep this park healthy and enjoyable, park users are encouraged to join together for a cleanup morning on Saturday May 14th, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. The City has provided gloves and bags and additional garbage pickup and WHMCA will provide coffee and water and donuts. See you there!
