Situated on 24 acres of land north of 16 Avenue NE and east of Moncton Road NE, Midfield Heights has undergone a remarkable transformation from its origins since time immemorial as traditional Treaty 7 territory to an airport runway to a manufactured home park, and soon, into a serene new urban enclave in the inner city.

Today, we’re excited to share updates on development site sales and what to expect during the 2024 construction season.

Development site sales
Midfield Heights is comprised of seven (7) multi-family development sites ranging from 0.78 to 4.2 acres, fully serviced to accommodate a total of between 1000 and 1500 new homes, depending on each purchaser’s specific development proposal.
Development site purchase opportunities will be open to experienced multi-family builders from June 4 to July 9, 2024, through calgary.ca/midfieldheights.

Construction update
The 2024 construction season – our final one – is well underway, building upon the momentum from previous years.

Past construction seasons have witnessed removal of old deteriorated utilities, slope repair, environmental remediation, and installation of new utilities, laying a sustainable and resilient foundation for the future.
To minimize disruption to our golf course tenants in the valley below, construction of a stormwater pond on golf course land has largely taken place over the winter and is now nearing completion. This pond filters stormwater from Midfield Heights and the greater Winston Heights-Mountview area before it reaches Nose Creek, serving as a significant environmental asset.

By fall 2024, we anticipate completing roadways, sidewalks, street lighting, and landscaping, including two park areas and extensive pathways.

Beyond the 2024 construction season, we eagerly anticipate seeing buildings rise.

Tree removal
Tree removal along the project’s boundaries took place the week of May 13.
We acknowledge the importance of these trees; the decision to remove them was not made lightly and is being done to maximize the fullest potential of the redevelopment site. We assure you that for every tree removed, a significantly greater number will be planted within our landscaped boulevards and public park areas, enhancing green spaces for generations to come.

Let’s make May 5th a day to remember with Ollee Owens Trio at Live in the Community Concert Series! 🎵🎶

What is now the Winston Heights-Mountview Community Association was first formally incorporated on December 6th, 1949 as the Winston Heights Community Association.  Our community has changed so much over the decades, starting from the initial settlement of Mountview in 1909, the establishment of Winston Heights for veterans returning from World War II, merger of Winston Heights and Mountview in 1963, growth into the Merrill Park and Midfield Park areas, and more recently redevelopment of the neighbourhood for new, young families.  The WHMCA has grown and changed over that time too.  The initial hall was built in the early 1950s and was added to into the 1990s.  The halls have hosted many parties and events for your community ever since.  The WHMCA has also built gardens, skating rinks, playgrounds, and been a liaison with the City of Calgary.

Winston Heights – Mountview Community Association needs volunteers for our casino on Saturday March 23rd and Sunday March 24th at the ELBOW RIVER CASINO

No experience is necessary! We are looking for volunteers for a number of positions. The following is a description of the duties of each volunteer and you can sign-up for a time slot 

We have a very beautiful flower garden in front of our community hall that is maintained by volunteers.  Our community budgets some funds for ongoing maintenance and planting and slowely but surely we have been adding perennials to fill in the garden.  In 2023 we were able to add a few more annuals both in pots and in the garden for that constant colour.  We were even successful growing a few plants from seed.  We are very proud of our community gardens and hope you have opportunities to wonder through the area or take a seat and just relax. 

Knowing we have many dedicated gardeners in our community, we wanted to reach out to ask; if you are planting seedlings for this coming spring, can you add a few extra to help us to further beautify our garden?  If this is something you wish to do please touch base and we will arrange to pick them up in order to plant them after the May long weekend.

The North Hall will be open for skaters on Saturday afternoons in January and February. Volunteers are needed to open up and close up. If your kids are skate on Saturday afternoons and you can help to create a warm space to change skates and use the washroom, please sign up.

We are thrilled to have had such a wonderful turnout for this year‘s Santa Breakfast!

Over 225 smiling faces joined us for a pancake breakfast, hayrides and a visit with Santa.

We can‘t make events like this happen without the help of so many volunteers. From our cooks, to servers and helpers with Santa and so many others, we can‘t do this without you!

Thank you so very much for lending your time. To all those who donated bake sale items, thank you! Over $300 was raised to further benefit Mamas for Mamas!

Join us for a festive Saturday on December 2nd, from 9 am to 12 pm, at the community hall, where we have a delightful pancake breakfast, hayrides, and a special visit from Santa.

This year, “The Giving Tree” initiative is thrilled to partner with Mamas for Mamas, a remarkable charity that supports Calgary families in need.

Support Mamas for Mamas by either bringing an item to the Santa Breakfast or selecting an ornament from The Giving Tree at the event and dropping it off later. Accepted items include

• New Toys
• Stocking Stuffers
• Wipes, Diapers
• Winter Clothing
• Canned or Dry Goods

Indulge your sweet tooth and back a great cause by contributing to our bake sale, a part of “The Giving Tree” initiative for Mamas for Mamas. To contribute baked goods, please contact bakesale@winstonheights.ca or call Samantha Nicastro at 403-619-5149. Drop off your baked goods on December 1st between 4 – 8 pm at the community hall, and kindly provide a list of ingredients with your contribution.

This year, we kindly ask attendees to register in advance. The event is free for current members and children under 12, and $10 for non-members.

We rely on community support, so if you can spare some time, please consider signing up for a volunteer shift.
