The Winston Heights–Mountview Community Association (WHMCA) is seeking a reliable, hands-on General Manager to lead the operational, maintenance, and revenue-driving functions of our community centre. This is a public-facing role and the successful applicant will cultivate a friendly and supportive environment for all renters and other users. The facility includes multiple halls, a sports field, centennial garden, and community rink. This position is central to ensuring the facility is well-maintained, efficiently operated, and actively generating rental and program revenue for the community.
Facility Management
- Oversee daily operations, hall administration, scheduling, and event logistics.
- Manage bookings using tools like Microsoft Bookings or Communal.
- Coordinate full event lifecycle: set-up, client support, tear-down.
- Automate communication and reminders where appropriate.
- Maintain facility usage reports, rental calendars, and maintenance logs.
Grounds and Building Maintenance
- Supervise janitorial staff; perform cleaning when required.
- Coordinate contractors for specialized work and ensure timelines/budgets are met.
- Ensure halls, grounds, rink, and surrounding areas are maintained to a safe and clean standard.
- Handle light repairs as required (bulbs, minor fixes).
Event and Rental Management
- Develop and execute strategies to grow facility revenue including grants as applicable.
- Manage client inquiries, bookings, and rental communication.
- Ensure quick post-event cleaning and reset for upcoming rentals.
- Other duties as required to ensure successful rental experiences (rooms & AV setup, etc.)
Safety and Compliance
- Conduct regular safety inspections and resolve hazards promptly.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and facility regulations.
Administrative Support
- Participate in board and committee meetings as appropriate.
- Supervise bookkeeper to ensure financial reporting aligns with facility activities.
- Manage and maintain an organized office space.
- Oversee communications and promotional activities, working with volunteers.
Qualifications
- Experience in facility management, caretaking, or event coordination.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365. Familiarity with Power Automate, Bookings, and Power BI is an asset.
- Financial literacy including understanding of balance sheets and income statements.
- Experience with rental or event management platforms preferred.
- Able to work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends as needed.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; able to manage multiple tasks.
- Proactive and solution-oriented, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Successful completion of a Canadian Criminal Record Check is required prior to an offer of employment.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 20 kg to shoulder height as required.
