Community Clean Up: September 15, 2024

August 6, 2024

Winston Heights-Mountview’s COMMUNITY CLEANUP, in partnership with the City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services and Community Strategies, is back!

Do some deep fall cleaning, help reduce waste in our landfills, and support your community organization with recyclable donations. The event is FREE to all and everyone in the Calgary area is welcome to participate. Last year, we picked up items from residents who were senior, physically challenged, without a vehicle, or just unable to get to the hall. We plan to do that again this year. Home pick-up is available within Winston Heights-Mountview until list is full. Items must be on 1st floor or in yard and can be carried by 2 volunteers. No pianos. Contact Suzanne at hallmanager@winstonheights.ca or 403-276-5474.
This event is being sponsored by Alberta Recycling Management Authority; every piece of electronic
equipment brought in will raise funds for the community association. Last year, we raised $630. This year, let’s shoot for $1,000.

24 volunteers needed for 3-hour shifts including 2 teams with a pick-up truck. It’s a great way to work with your neighbours. I think most would agree it can be a lot of fun.
Volunteers will not be asked to lift more than they are able. We have a few spots for volunteers with physical limitations. We provide all safety equipment as well as coffee, water, snacks, and lunch. Please sign up HERE by August 31 st to allow us time for planning. If you have questions, you can contact the Event Organizer, Ben McKenzie, through the office at hallmanager@winstonheights.ca.

Help Wanted:  Volunteer Coordinator

Are you looking to expand your interpersonal and web skills and meet some of the great neighbours in your community?  The WHMCA would like you to fill the role of Volunteer Coordinator.  This volunteer role will require about 2-6 hours per month and will involve the following:

  • Work with the Community Relations chair and the event and program co-ordinators to find volunteers to assist on the event and program days.
  • Upcoming events include the Community Cleanup and Santa Breakfast.
  • Use the Communal website to determine which community members have shown interest in volunteering for events.
  • Reach out personally to community members to engage them in volunteering.

Training will be included.  The Volunteer Co-ordinator will need to use their own computer.
