If neighbors are using their rain gutters to channel rainwater into their barrels, cisterns, or whatever and also channel it into their rain gardens, I certainly would like to suggest that these neighbors remember to keep their rain gutters sparkling clean. How? I use the newly developed rain gutter cleaning tool called a Gutter Clutter Buster, which I purchased on-line, that connects snuggly to my shop vac and actually vacuums out all debris in my gutters. The debris settles into the vac canister and when finished I dump the canister into my compost pile. Hopefully, others can see how they can save money and add to the environment a safer, cleaner, and easier method of cleaning out our rain gutters.

Sorry....needed to correct my spelling and hit the wrong button.... so to continue...... the pertinent facts were put into a book along with pictures for all to view at the 25th Anniversary which Bill & I organized. The community history is very real to me. It would be nice to find that book as well as the letter from Winston Churchill himself giving the community his blessing as well as allowing them to use his name. It was in the community papers way back then. That is why the picture of Sir Winston hangs on the wall of the community to this day.
P.S. I had the pleasure of knowing many of the Vets as I use to babysit for them.
Thank you for letting me get my two cents worth in.

Thanks to all who worked on and made the Garden Dedication a nice afternoon. It was good to see some of the older members again as well as meeting some of those who are carrying in the footsteps of the Veterans.
I did introduce myself to Mike so he could put a face to the old gal who complained about the naming of the Garden. My thought was, to pay tribute to the Vets who laid the ground work for all of us who are now enjoying this wonderful community. Vet's Memorial or Winston Churchill Memorial seemed like a no brainer to me. I feel very strongly about our community and how it evolved. We moved into our house because of the wonderful people (Vet's and families) who lived here. Bill had many of the Veteran's boys playing Little League Baseball for him. Ken Murdock was one of them and we became friends with Dave and Helen. Dave offered to sell his back lot for our new home and for us to build our dreams on. We have never been disappointed. And when I wasn't living in this community I was right across Edmonton Trail on 28th Ave., so I have
As for a history lesson as you suggested on your web site..........name someone else in the community who has read each and every word of every meeting held in the first twenty five years of our community. That is exactly what I did. The pertanent

June:
The Winston Heights half of Winston Heights/Mountview was first created in 1944 through the Veteran's Land Act however Mount View (now Mountview) was first formed in 1908. Our complete community history can be found at http://winstonheights.ca/about/community-history/

The Centennial Garden is meant to celebrate that centenary while returning a small section of the community to a natural area similar to that which came prior to our homes.

I highly recommend attending the Centennial Garden opening on Saturday and speaking with Kathleen Johnston, our community historian who can give you all kinds of detail. I'm sure the two of you will be able to swap many stories!
