“Neighbour” by Clea Roddick

At the recent Membership Pancake Breakfast we premièred our newest project, a music video for Clea Roddick’s song “Neighbour”. The video stars the people and places of Winston Heights-Mountview and we couldn’t be more proud of the outcome.

The idea for the video came from board member Sarah Arthurs who had heard Clea’s song one day on CBC Radio and was stuck by the lyrics, specifically the phrase “how will we make it through the ages when we don’t even know the neighbours?” She came to the next board meeting with the suggestion about making a music video featuring our community. The board loved the idea and agreed to help fund it. The next thing you knew, Clea was on board, The Calgary Foundation had agreed to redirect some leftover project funds, and the production company Fresh and Smoked was brainstorming ideas with community members. Quickly after that filming started and the video below is the outcome.

We’re proud of our neighbourhood and our neighbours and we’re happy to share that enthusiasm with the world. Enjoy!

Volunteers Needed for September

Attention all painters and handyman types. The WHMCA Rink Committee is
looking for volunteers to paint and repair the rink boards at a work bee in early
September. Many hands make light work. Refreshments and snacks will be

Centennial Garden Party

The Garden committee requires 8 to 10 volunteers to assist with the Centennial
Garden Party on Sunday, September 18. They need help with inside/outside
decorating, catering and clean up. If you are interested in lending a hand please

Free pancake breakfast and the
Premiere of our very own community video “Neighbours”

at the Community Hall (520 – 27th Avenue NE)
on Saturday, October 1st from 9:30-11:30 am
Video Premiere at 10:30 AM

We’ll be serving up pancakes and sausages. There will be live music and kids
activities.

Come and check out our “Community Booths” where you can discover WHMCA
activities and events to take part in or a committee to join.

7th Street Playground Community Party!

To celebrate the completion of the new playground at 7th Street and 22nd Avenue NE, we will have a community party on Sunday, September 11th, from 1 to 3 pm. Please come and enjoy a day at the park and check out the new playground!

There will be snacks, face painting, and maybe a bouncy castle. We will even have a draw for passes to Heritage Park, the Calgary Zoo and movies courtesy of the City of Calgary!

The winners of our Park Naming Contest will also be announced. Just think – you will be able to tell your friends and family which park you are going to!
