NeighbourWoods Planting Day is Fast Approaching!
Thank you to all community residents that called 3-1-1 to express interest in having a tree planted through the NeighbourWoods Residential Tree Planting Program. It will be a few years before we are offered this opportunity again.
The City gardeners have been busy visiting homes and determining placements of trees, marking the planting area with white circles and fronds. The circles will be drilled out by a City contractor, providing a nice hole in which to plant the new tree. We will soon have over 100 new trees in the community!
On September 18th, all trees will be delivered to the WHMCA Community Hall, along with extra topsoil and mulch. Residents that ordered a tree will need to pick them up that day, take them home and plant them in the pre-drilled hole. In the morning there will be a workshop on how to plant your tree, including how to use the watering bag that comes with the tree. (check out the sandwich board signs for start time). Remember – the tree is retail valued at $350-$400, and the only charge to residents is $30 to cover the cost of the watering bag. The bag will insure that the tree gets enough water while it is establishing itself in its new home.
Volunteers will be available to help by delivering and planting trees for those who are unable.
Enjoy your new tree!
